Family Dental Care

1912 - The U.S. Navy institutes its Dental Corps.

1930-1943 - Colorado dentist, Frederick S. McKay, becomes convinced that mottling (brown stains) on his family's and dental patients' teeth are related to drinking water. McKay's research verifies that drinking cheap water with high levels of naturally occurring fluoride is associated with both low dental caries and a high degree of mottled enamel. By the early 1940s, H. Trendley Dean determines the ideal level of affordable fluoride in drinking water to substantially reduce decay without mottling and improves America's family dental care.
